Better Half Retold Debuts at Kamers

“Years ago I found a beautiful linen dress. I’ve worn it every summer since.”
Sarah Byram Better Half Founder
We recently launched our newest range, Better Half Retold at Kamers festival.
Better Half Retold stemmed from an idea of reimagining those once off vintage items which we could never find again but which are too good to not share with the world. Our first design is the bloom dress, inspired by a simple dress, re-made to be adored.
It seems the perfect starting point for Better Half Retold - reimagined pieces from your grandmother's closet. Pieces that we can make in a variety of colours and sizes. Pre-loved inspired pieces to be loved by many. I wanted to share this with the better half community and see what the response would be like. Please reach out and let us know.
The bloom dress is made from a blend of viscose and linen, 55% rayon and 45% linen. It is a fabric that feels good when you put it on. A natural fabric that will stand the test of time if looked after correctly. The dress is currently available in milk and coal. We are currently doing research to see what the feedback of our first design is before deciding about quantities. As always we want to remain conscious in our choices, always aiming to reduce waste and over production. We won’t do big production runs, but rather carry a small range in store and online and work on a made to order basis.
This has been a goal for Better Half for many years , slowly collecting items we’d love to re-imagine for you. As a small business owner, who primarily sells pre-loved pieces, the idea of selling at Kamers, which is the biggest trade show for local designers in the country, was always very alluring but never something Better Half could be considered for, selling preloved and vintage pieces. Now with the edition of Better Half Retold we can be included in KAMERS, as a fellow South African maker, creating pieces and supporting our local economy.
It was an honour to share our first design at Kamers with the MERWE COLLECTIVE at the end of October. The collective consisted of Merwe Mode, Raya Rossi and Better Half Retold and it was a pleasure to be in such good company.
We look forward to trading at the next Kamers in Pretoria, starting on the 8th of December.
